Por fin he tenido ocasión de ver la premiada como Mejor Película en la última edición de los Oscar, "12 years a slave".
I have finally had the chance to see the movie recipient of this year's Best Film Oscar, "12 years a slave".
Basada en hechos reales, esta cinta reivindicativa sobre la esclavitud (que ya comentaba en un post anterior -AQUÍ-) es una gran obra que sin embargo, en mi opinión, ha dejado ver una vez más cuan politizados están los Premios de la Academia.
Based on a true story, this 'protest' movie about slavery (which I already commented on a previous post) is a great work although, in my opinión, is another proof of how the Academy Awards' are politicized.

Una historia que no deja indiferente a nadie (Solomon Northup, un hombre libre y culto de raza negra, es engañado para ser vendido como esclavo y sufrir 12 años de miserias y penurias), en el marco de la trata de los esclavos en la época prebélica de los Estados Unidos a finales del siglo XIX.

La cinta tiene una estética sencilla pero exquisita (parece que sus escenas sean actos de una obra teatral a lo grande), con diálogos parcos y paisajes maravillosos (los propios del sur del país -con los campos de algodón, el río Mississipi y las grandes posesiones de los terratenientes como protagonistas-).
The film has a simple but exquisite aesthetic (its scenes seem to be part of a theater piece), sparing dialogues and awesome landscapes (the ones common in the South of the country -the cotton plantations, the Mississipi and the great properties of the landowners as the main points-).

Sin duda las sublimes interpretaciones de sus actores (Chiwetel Ejiofor en su papel de Northup y Lupita Nyong'o como Patsey, aunque también Michael Fassbender y su esposa -Sarah Paulson- bordan su papeles de esclavistas) hacen de esta historia de desesperación una película completa, que transmite tanto esperanza como el terror y maldad que experimentan los personajes.
The extraordinary performances of its actors (Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northup and Lupita Nyong'o as Patsey, although Michael Fassbender and wife -Sarah Paulson- also play perfectly their characters as slave-traders) make this hopelessness story a very complete film, which achieves to convey a message of hopeless, terror and evil (i.e. all what the characters experience) to the audience.

Lo que tendréis que decidir vosotros es si vale el Premio a la Mejor Película que recogió Brad Pitt el pasado día 2 (como productor -quien por cierto se reserva un papel fundamental en el largometraje, estad atentos!-) por delante de otras serias candidatas como "Dallas Buyers Club" o "The Wolf of Wall Street".

Para mí, el Oscar que sí no es tan claro es el de Lupita Nyong'o; a pesar de que su interpretación es admirable, lo cierto es que tiene un papel tan corto que no sé si es nuevamente un premio político -más siendo la primera nominación y pasando por delante de otras grandes actrices como Julia Roberts o Jennifer Lawrence- o es la que más lo merecía.
In my view, an Oscar which is not as clear is Lupita Nyong'o 's; despite her performance is perfect, the true is that her role is so short that it leaves rooom for doubt again about the politicized awards -more over when this was her first nomination and that has won actresses as Julia Roberts or Jennifer Lawrence- or should she really deserved it the most.
